OCR questions

 1. The Guardian and Observer are owned by a trust set up in the 1930s to protect the journalistic and editorial independence of the Guardian newspaper and to keep safeguard journalistic freedom and the newspaper’s liberal values. The Astor family established The Observer's liberal values, with David Astor as the editor until the mid-1970s. the newspaper easily fitted the values of the Scott Trust.

2. The idea of press freedom means that the press is the most opinionated of all the ‘old’ media. Newspapers can campaign on political issues and journalists are expected to be highly critical of those in power.

3. Online newspapers will use the traditional media language of newspapers. they use headlines, copy, photography and so on, but also that of television through embedded and fixed video.

4.  The New Review consists of more comedic opinion pieces, interviews and reviews of theatre, dance, music, cinema, architecture, computer games, and television listings. This appeals and pleasures to the culture consumer. Also, the Sports section covers primarily male sports with a bias to football and rugby union.  The magazine contains much lifestyle material such as fashion, gardening, and even advice on relationships.

5. Reading articles by familiar journalists and responding with tweets or comments on the website may replace real social interactions for some read.

6. The Observer website has no user generated content and that the audience are limited to responding to the journalists’ output (they get to decide on what the audience can reply on.)

    q. 1 The Scott Trust - yes it has liberal values
    q. 2 unfinished - so in what way did the regulation of the press change?
    q. 3 convergence question - you should also understand the other kind of convergence relates to cultural convergence, that is, about the way that the paper is consistent in its values
    q. 4 you know that there are different sections
    q. 5 The idea of a 'common culture' and shared values is key here
    q. 6 You don't pick up on the fact that The Twitter and Instagram feeds offer content for response - interactivity is 'active'. So is forming one's own opinion, rather than being a 'passive' audience
