Observer Views and Beliefs

 The representations featured in the online Observer reflects it's values and beliefs. Discuss how far you agree with this statement in the relation to extract 3, the online Observer homepage. 

- The online observer has a sense of duty to the reader and the community showing their values and beliefs which are more socially liberal which shows 

- you can tell it reflects the belief of equally showing of importance of different thing e.g politics, adverts, hard news... 

- The papers header is identical in colour and placement to The Guardian which shows that the same admirable beliefs apply to them as well. 

- The paper also keeps up to date with covid19 news which is very topical- again showing that the paper always has the most relative news- and shows a variety of angles as not to seem too one sided. 

- includes different cultures and ethnicities reinforcing The Observer focus and interest in representing diversity

- provides a balance to more difficult topics (showing its beliefs in not hiding the truth)

- involves informative information for all ages aiming for a mass audience

- keeps up with top news on covid 19 jabs

- includes online and offline information as well as images of all type of people and all races which show it is diverse. 

Therefore I conclude that, I do agree with this statement because as you can see here the observer shows it's beliefs and values.

03 creating media 2022

 

Website: In my website there could be a video of me showing young people a good diet on how to keep fit and have good energy for football. I would do this because I want to show people and inspire people to get into football. I could also cook a meal and show why it is nutritional and good fore   I also might have pictures of people my age (14-15) playing football. I also could have pictures of professional footballers who I look up to.  I would talk about my local football club and how I loved playing for my local team I will use informative language which will be appropriate for teenagers and will persuade people why football is fun and is good for you. An example newspaper articles would be 'Young teenage scores in cup final!' 'Claygate royals take home victory in a tense 1:0 win!' 

I can write about will be a general idea of football and on how it can inspire people. I would also talk about my experience with football and my Sunday league career. My brother and I both play football so I could get a picture of him and I playing football. 

I could write about tips and how to get into football for beginners. I could also have a phrase that Gareth Southgate has said about how to get better and advance at football. I may be inspired to play football but you may not so how would I inspire you to get into football. I think you should go for trails at a club to then get your place into a team. I could talk about how I first started and try and inspire young people to join a football team around my age and younger.

Q3 How far does Cuffs adapt police drama conventions to fit its family audience at 8 p.m. on BBC1?

 Cuffs adapts itself very suitably to fit its family audience at 8pm on BBC1.  We know this because Cuffs is shown before 9pm this means it has to keep to certain requirements to sustain it’s family friendly viewers. In Cuffs, no blood, guts and heavy violence is shown throughout the series. For example, when the racist enters the shop to find a Indian man he decides to stab him but keeping the programme suitable for all viewers we do not get to see the stabbing actually happen, all we see is the owners of the shops son reaction to stabbing then the blood and the aftermath later on the floor. Another example of how Cuffs adapts police drama genre conventions is how the show does not include any bad language. Throughout Cuffs no sense of swearing which makes it fit its family audience at 8pm and this makes it that anyone can watch it in their family.

The regulators and controllers of BBC, BBC1, S4C, Channel 4 and other broadcasters if Ofcom who control what is allowed to be produced, at what time and on what channel. This means BBC1 keep to their regulations by involving no threatening scenes or harsh violence.  Cuffs to be broadcasted at 8pm, I believe is the right time they should streaming due to it being later in the evening you (will get less youngers viewers watching) meaning less chance of what is shown to be affecting the audience and the younger generation.

2. In Teenage Dirtbag the representations are much different to the representations in Sk8r Boi. We know this because the narrative in Teenage Dirtbag is much different and contrasts to Sk8r Boi. In Sk8r Boi it mainly consists of montage rather than cause and effect. Moreover, in Teenage Dirtbag it is set in an American suburbia, with its connotations as conformity. Whereas, in Sk8r Boi it is set in the central city with its connotations as street credibility. Also, in Teenage Dirtbag it is more intertextual in its use of a narrative that is familiar from high school drama.

Furthermore, there is a de-saturated colour and fast-paced editing in SB which contrasts with saturated colour. The mise-en-scen in Sk8r boi fit the singer because it celebrates teenage rebellion and rulebreaking. However, the mise-en-scene also fits Teenage Dirtbag because it represents a characrer trying to conform and succeed.

3. Producers of radio programmes may work for commercial radio or publicly owned radio. Commercial radio stations such as Kiss FM have to find an audience they can sell to, so they can make money. They may do this by choosing and playing certain genres to play. Pop music stations like Kiss FM can also reach young audiences that are hard for advertisers to reach, so are valuable. Some stations such as Classic FM attract a more upmarket audience so that advertisers will pay money to reach. 

BBC radio stations do not have to attract advertisers, but they do have to fulfil the BBC's Public Service Broadcasting requirements. These include, reflecting the diversity of Britain, serving all audiences and producing distinctive radio programmes. The BBC does this by offering a stable of radio channels that between them serve diverse audiences by offering different radio genres of music and different presentational styles.

 

Mojo and BBC magazine

 

In the two magazines they are presented much differently and the media language is much different. For example, the Mojo magazine is a rock genre of music and the BBC magazine is a classical music magazine. In the Mojo magazine there is main character who is represented as crazy. We know this because, in the magazine the main character, Robert Smith, has groovy makeup on and has a crazy and sort of lunatic hairstyle. They may do this to target a younger audience who aspire to be like him. Moreover, it has a very modern style to it and has a portrayal of funk and rock in the magazine. The magazine also has a lot of colours and has a sense of freedom to it. Also, the media language shows the type of music that it is showing and shows the theme of the music. In the magazine, the font texture is 'broken' which represents the main character. 

On the other hand, the BBC magazine, features classical music. This is contrasts to the Mojo magazine. The media language is used to display this and the main character on the magazine is only 17. Moreover, in the magazine there are only plain colours used. For example, in the back ground there is only white. The person in the magazine is also a 'rising star.' Also, this magazine contrasts the mise-en-scene because the man in the BBC magazine has very informal clothes on. The person in the BBC magazine also looks happy and excited.

In conclusion the two music magazines use very different types of media to convey their point of what time of magazine they are along with what way they are presenting the people in them, one a well known rock star the other an upcoming future artist who is young and strong. Also, in the BBC magazine it contrasts to the mojo magazine because the mise-en-scene the man has very informal clothes on.  For example the added lighting in the MOJO one whereas there is none added in the BBC one. Not only this buy they layouts are very different. We know this because, in the MOJO one its all over the place whereas the BBC one it is all neat and formal

Magazine: My magazine front cover will be me playing football and scoring a goal. I would do this because I love football and want to express my passion on the beautiful game. I also might have pictures of people my age (14-15) playing football. I also could have pictures of professional footballers who I look up to.

  1. What is your impression from the 60's era?

My first impression of the 60's was that it was a very vibrant and colourful era. Everyone seemed so much more confident and that people did not care about what people think. this era comes across to me as being enjoyable and this could be because all the music was upbeat and that everyone seems happy compared to todays society.

2. Where does this come from?

this comes from watching the trailer of 'Austin Powers'. in the trailer we see what the fashion was like back then. For example, people had fussy long and huge hair and that people wore colourful clothes. Also, the comedic side of it shows me how they liked to have fun with little care.

For my double page spread I would probably have photos of me playing in Sunday league.

For my FACTUAL TELEVISION PROGRAMME, I would talk about my most important games in my career and talk about my favourite positions as a player.

My video would be about me scoring a goal for my Sunday league team but also recording us losing the game.

I would also record me after the game and us in the changing room. I would also get different camera angles of the coach

Football provides many health benefits for children. It's a physically demanding game that provides an opportunity for players to improve their speed, agility, strength, hand-eye coordination and overall cardiovascular endurance.

03 choosing briefs 8/3/21

 Brief 1: Magazines

For my double page spread, I would probably put photos of a footballers or me playing for my local team. I would write also an article about it and put pictures of perhaps players 

Brief 2: Tv Show

For a comedy Tv show, I could film me doing trick shots in football but failing. This might appeal to some teenagers because they might think it is funny

Brief 3: Music video 

For my music video I would maybe pick a song that I like and use slo-mo shots and lip sync the words. I could use a Digga D or a Drake song

Brief 4: Website 

I could write about one of my favourite hobbies. This could be, me playing board games. I could also make a guide on what board games are fun and make a video on the website showing me playing my favourite game.

According to The Times newspaper this week,  watching TV live and in real time accounts for most TV viewing.

1. What do you understand by the terms 'live' content and 'on demand' content? Live Tv is the production broadcast in real time.
2. However, on demand is when you can watch or record a programme not in real time.
3. What is the demand for 'live' content like? 73% of the nation say they view things live 
   
4. According to ratings research, there are 8 programmes cited as the top live shows for family viewing. How many have you watched? 2/8 (strictly and news) 
5. Apply Blumler and Katz's audience framework to what you learn from this article. Strictly provoke interaction with the audience and that Social Media can now spark and immediate reaction and get people get talking about what is going on. In the article families also get bond with each other. It also says 39% of people feel they get a better connection to society through this. 

How musicians are represented on this MOJO cover

Here in this Mojo magazine we have John Lennon who was one of the men in the group called the ‘Beatles.’ John Lennon on the example cover is shown looking directly and sort of staring at the camera. I think that this design is amazing because the Mojo logo is behind him making it that seem that he is untouched and great. This allows him be the centrepiece which attracts the reader to the layout, instead of the Mojo logo. I think this creates and makes it seem that John Lennon is respected and that he is a true icon.

 1. The Guardian and Observer are owned by a trust set up in the 1930s to protect the journalistic and editorial independence of the Guardian newspaper and to keep safeguard journalistic freedom and the newspaper’s liberal values. The Astor family established The Observer's liberal values, with David Astor as the editor until the mid-1970s. the newspaper easily fitted the values of the Scott Trust.

2. The idea of press freedom means that the press is the most opinionated of all the ‘old’ media. Newspapers can campaign on political issues and journalists are expected to be highly critical of those in power.

3. Online newspapers will use the traditional media language of newspapers. they use headlines, copy, photography and so on, but also that of television through embedded and fixed video.

4.  The New Review consists of more comedic opinion pieces, interviews and reviews of theatre, dance, music, cinema, architecture, computer games, and television listings. Also, the Sports section covers primarily male sports with a bias to football and rugby union.  The magazine contains much lifestyle material such as fashion, gardening, and even advice on relationships.

5. Reading articles by familiar journalists and responding with tweets or comments on the website may replace real social interactions for some read.

6. The Observer website has no user generated content and that the audience are limited to responding to the journalists’ output (they get to decide on what the audience can reply on.)

1.  - The observer on Twitter is a good way to advertise the newspaper. For instance, on the twitter they have put 'Tomorrows front page' which has a little description making the reader want/have to go a buy it to see what's on the the newspaper
2. -The observer account is verified showing that lots of people go onto their page for updates on the newspaper and that it is very popular.
3. -Twitter is a good platform to send things around because it is very easy to share and the observer sometimes posts the front page of the new newspaper and the people interested can send the post around
4. -Also on twitter you can comment, chat and interact with others peoples ideas and thoughts about the same topic.
5. Accessing the Observer online can also let you edit your page and adapt the paper the way you want and not to how what other people want. The observer is also quite eye catching and popular type of newspaper. 

Blumler and Katz's theory uses gratifications; Lego movie game

 

By using Blumler and Katz's theory, the two uses and gratifications of video games are:

People play on video games for a number of various reasons and one of them is for pure entertainment and happiness. If people feel they are having fun and being occupied, it makes people happy and they only think about the game and not what is going on in the real world. Especially in the times we are currently in, global pandemic, people will get more bored than usual and by playing video games and they will be entertained because they do not have much to do. This will help children and adults to take their mind off everything around them and just have some fun playing a game. For example, the Lego Movie Game is very popular, as it is on many devices and you can play as your favourite character on the game (e.g. Emmet.)

Another gratification would be forming relationships, both on and off the screen. I think that this is very important because some of the characters could have similar qualities to you and that some children might play the game because they have watched the movie and look up to a hero like character such as Emmet. This makes people feel a deeper connection to the characters and might make them love the game and the brand. The game is a very fun and shows a lot of happiness and even if you are feeling down and not that happy this game is for everyone and makes a lot of people pleased. The game also allows the person playing to go through different emotions such as ‘party time.’

Lego Movie activity Q1-Q3

 

Q1. British Heart foundation, Confused.com, BT and Premier inn all have a want to work with the Lego Movie as they want to be seen in and noticed in the movie. Noticeably, the business' all believe that the Lego movie will be a high rated, general and popular film so having their company on the screen will boost the popularity.

Q2. Having each advert exclusively made from Lego bricks is a clever and new idea to the world. Especially in the adverts this is because, as the adverts are normally in between scenes or for a movie they are always at the start. Showing that there is a Lego world and even on outside of the movie (the adverts) still includes Lego. In my opinion this is a smart idea because nobody else has done it before.

Q3. Keeping the brand identity is a key thing throughout the adverts as it is keeping the Lego world alive and running. Using these adverts people might remember them very well and they might tell other people about it. This shows us that it is important to maintain the brand identity throughout the adverts as the viewer might share it to other people and find it eye catching.
